Kushtia’s Padma boat capsize/ Two bodies recovered, two still missing

Divers of fire service have recovered the bodies of two of the four persons went missing in the boat capsize on Padma in Kushtia’s Kumarkhali upazila on Tuesday.
The bodies were found floating two kilometers away from the spot in Ghoshpur area of Sadipur union of the upazila around 3pm on Wednesday.
They were identified as Shariful Islam, son of Jalil Mistry of Jamalpur village in Bahadurpur union of Bheramara upazila and Jubayer, son of Ranjit Ali of the same area.
Jewel Hossain, 30, son of Haran Sheikh of the same area and Zakir, 25, son of Naju are still missing in the incident.
All of them are day laborers.
The fire service’s diving team continues to rescue the missing, Deputy Assistant Director of Pabna Sadar Fire Service Saifuzzaman confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kumarkhali Police Station, Mojibur Rahman said two bodies have been recovered so far. The body will be handed over to the relatives after post mortem.
Thirteen day laborers coming from Jamalpur in Bahadurpur union of Bheramara upazila of the district to Ghoshpur in Kumarkhali. They rented two boats and were trying to cross the mighty Padma river to reach a char to collect grass.
There were nine people in one boat and four in other. The boat carrying 9 people drowned in a strong current a little away from the river bank. Later in the other, it also sank when others tried to get up on the boat.
Nine of them were able to swim, while the four went into missing.
