Fiction writer Rabeya Khatun has been bid farewell with respect and love. Her homage ceremony started in front of Bangla Academy’s Nazrul Mancha on Monday (January 4) at 11:30 am.Advocate Afzal Hossain, organizing secretary of ruling Bangladesh Awami League paid tribute on behalf of the party. Information Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Hasan Mahmud also paid tribute to Rabia Khatun.
Bangla Academy President Shamsuzzaman Khan and Director General Habibullah Siraj, cultural personalities Ramendu Majumder, playwrights Mamunur Rashid and Nasir Uddin Yusuf paid tribute.
After paying his respects, the Information Minister said, ‘Rabeya Khatun has enriched Bengali literature. She has written more than fifty novels and more than four hundred stories. The demise of such a writer is an irreparable loss to Bengali literature. Bigger than that, by the time she started writing, it wasn’t easy for women. But she has succeeded in her work.
Earlier on Sunday (January 3) afternoon, Rabia Khatun died of old age.
