We have to be our own physician to keep us better and safe : IU Vice Chancellor

Islamic University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Sheikh Abdus Salam categorically said, we have to be our own physician. It is better and safe than any way others. He said knowledge is the best medicine to stay away from diseases.
According to him, when a person can practice cleanest habits in life and stay away from unhealthy lifestyle, then he can protect himself from any rapidly spreading disease like diabetes.
“Increasing knowledge level and motivation makes the person health conscious and away from unhealthy lifestyle,” he said.
On the occasion of World Diabetic Day, the Vice Chancellor said these in a discussion meeting organized by Kushtia Diabetic Samity Mujibur Rahman Memorial Diabetic Hospital on November 14. He also announced the auspicious inauguration of the programme undertaken on the occasion of the day.
Vice Chancellor observed that diabetes is bigger than a disease, it is a hotbed of many diseases. This disease invites many other diseases into the body.
The vice chancellor said diabetes patients once upon a time might have to be burden for the society of Bangladesh. This is enough shocking matter and can cause panic. So it has to be stopped.
“Protective measures are better than curative measures to keep diabetes at the bay,” Professor Salam observed.
Addressing the chief guest in the discussion meeting, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam said everybody have to lead a controlled and orderly life. Above all, be aware. There is nothing to fear with awareness and doctor’s advice.
Attending in the event as key speaker, renowned cardiologist and surgeon Professor Dr. S R Khan said, every two people do not know they have diabetes.
He said that this disease costs 760 billion dollars in the world with which 25 Padma Bridges can be built. To prevent diabetes, he advised to be careful in eating, to walk regularly, to do physical exercise and to be stress-free.
Chairman of Kushtia Diabetic Samity Motiur Rahman Laltu chaired the discussion meeting.
The programme was addressed as a special guest, Professor of Law Department at Islamic University Dr. Shahjahan Mandal, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall Provost Professor Dr. Mahbubul Arfin, Public Prosecutor of Kushtia Judge Court Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi, Director of Information, Publication and Public Relations Office of Islamic University also editor and publisher Bangla daily The Dainik Kushtia and The Kushtia Times Dr. Amanur Aman.
Moshfiqur Rahman Torlin general secretary of Diabetic Samity gave the welcome speech.
The medical officer of Kushtia Diabetic Samity Dr. Mohana Afroz made special address on diabetic.
A rally was held on the occasion of World Diabetic Day before the discussion.
