A Union Parishad (UP) chairman has been sent to jail in VGD’s (Vulnerable Group Feeding) rice embezzlement case.
The UP chairman was identified as Jamirul Islam Babu, chairman of Rifayetpur Union Parishad in Kushtia’s Daulatpue upazila.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Enamul Haque on Tuesday afternoon passed the order.
According to court sources, Chairman Jamirul made a VGD card in the name of Rubina Khatun of Rifayetpur village of the union and embezzled whole rice allotted for the year 2019-2020 in favour of the card.
Amount of the allotted rice was 30 kg per month.
Sensing the matter, the woman’s brother Munna Hossain filed a case against the chairman in the same court on the November 18 this month. The court directed Daulatpur police station to take up the matter as a case within 24 hours. The police received the case on the same day.
Jamirul appeared in the court today (November 24) and applied for bail.
The court denied bail and ordered him to send jail.
