Bangladesh Inter-University Officers Federation has submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) containing eight demands.

A delegation from the federation presented the memorandum at a meeting held on Thursday (November 5) the UGC hall room.

UGC member Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher presided over the meeting. Ut was conducted by Dr. Ferdous Zaman, Secretary (Additional Duties) of UGC.

Among others present on the occasion were Joint Secretary of the Commission Zafar Ahmed Jahangir, Director (Additional Responsibilities) of Finance and Accounts Department Md. Shah Alam and President of Bangladesh Inter-University Officers Federation Md. Amirul Islam.

Secretary General of the Federation Mir Md. Morshedur Rahman also General Secretary of Islamic University Officers' Association, presented a written statement on the demands.
The demands of the federation are redefining the initial pay scale of the officers; Formulation of uniform policies for officials in all public universities of the country;

Compulsory appointment of non-teaching officers including all department heads; Raising the retirement age of officers to 65 years; Ensuring of the presidents and general secretaries of the officers' associations of all the universities to participate in the meetings in the interest of the officers and ensure official representation in the syndicate, senate and regents board; Provide corporate loans at 4% simple interest in the fastest time; Compulsory basic training of officers and implementation of regular thematic training and policies for higher education of university officers and implementation of past service experience calculation of officers.

UGC member Prof Abu Taher, who presided over the meeting said some of the demands put forward by the Federation were logical. He said a request has been made by the commission at a meeting of the vice-chancellors of public universities to give responsibility to the most qualified officers in all the posts including registrars. He agreed to appoint non-teaching officers at all administrative posts.

Regarding the pay scale, he said financial autonomy was not provided anywhere in the various public university laws and the 1973 ordinance. So no university can set its own pay scale. He expressed optimism, once there is a uniform policy for teachers, an initiative will be taken to formulate a uniform policy for officials as well.
