The higher educational institutions will not open before August if the decision to open the university is valid after confirming the vaccination of the students.

Because it will take time till the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to complete the vaccination. After completing the second dose in July, the university with its residential hall will be opened in early August.

However, there is still no core initiative in this regard. That means it’s more likely to lag behind.

University Grants Commission member Prof. Muhammad Alamgir said the first dose of the vaccine would be given priority after receiving the Chinese vaccine at the beginning of this June. The second dose of the Chinese vaccine can be given after 21 to 28 days. If it can be started now, all the universities can be opened in early August after Eid-ul-Azha by completing the second dose. Educational activities, examinations and evaluations will be conducted directly as before in accordance with the health rules.

A meeting of the ministry, UGC and university vice-chancellors held on Tuesday (June 1) decided to reopen the university on four conditions.

The meeting was chaired by the Minister of Education Dipu Moni.

The meeting decided to reopen the university by ensuring that university students are vaccinated on a priority basis.

In two of the four decisions, it was said that as per the directives of the Prime Minister, all the students of the university would be brought under the covid-19 vaccination as soon as possible on priority basis. The immunization programme will begin with students in residential halls. And after the completion of the students, the residential halls of the university will be opened and the educational activities will be resumed as before in the direct presence of the students in the university.

The Chinese vaccine is expected to arrive in Bangladesh this June. Earlier, the Education Minister Dipu Moni said that 6 lakh doses of vaccine are coming from China. Vaccination of all students will be ensured with priority of residential students. Then the residential hall will be opened.

Eid-ul-Azha will be celebrated on July 21 or 22 (subject to moon sighting). As such, it will be possible to open the university with its residential hall within two weeks of Eid.

Meanwhile, in order to continue the educational activities of the university, the UGC held a meeting on May 26 and directed to take direct and online examinations. On Monday (May 31), private universities were instructed to take separate direct and online examinations.

With the approval of the Academic Council, all the universities in the country will be able to take the exam directly and online in the existing situation of Corona.
