Unidentified miscreants vandalised idols of Hindu gods and goddesses was being constructed for the upcoming Durga Puja in Kushtia town.
Police suspected that the incident might take place anytime of last night.
The idols were found broken this morning, said Advocate Anup Kumar Nandi, president of the district puja celebration committee.
It is a temporary mandap in Aruapara area under the banner of Aika Jubasangha, which is built every year ahead of Durga Puja, Anup said.
Anup said artisans were on work to construct the idols.
Rintu Kumar Pal, a junior artisan said they left the idols to dry after coating them with clay on Monday afternoon.
The work was stopped for a day as the artisans were waiting to dry up the clay coated on the idols.
Sabbirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Model Police Station said they were investigating the matter.
The responsible people will be identified and brought under the law soon, he added.
