Two septic tank construction workers died

Two septic tank construction workers lost their lives in a septic tank they built in Kushtia.

The tragic incident took place in Zugia Palpara area of ​​the city on Friday (May 6) morning.

The deceased were identified as Sadek Ali Bachchu, 40, son of Chamed Mandal of Paschim Gobindpur village in Mirpur upazila and Manik Hossain, 30, of Ruhul Amin in the same area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Model Police Shawkat Kabir said construction workers Sadeq and Manik had built a septic tank at a house in Zugia Pal Para a few days ago. The house belonged to Sadeq’s sister. They stopped at the end of the construction and left and came on Friday to finish the work.

Manik first went inside the tank. After a while, Sadeq Bachchu also went inside as he did not get any response from Manik. After that, the owner of the house Amirul Islam informed the locals without getting any response from both of them.

Later, the locals rescued them and took to the Kushtia General Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.

OC Shawkat Kabir said methane gas was generated there as the septic tank was closed for a long time. The death might have as the result of the oxygen crisis. The matter will be clear as soon as the autopsy report comes.
