District and Sessions Judge's Court has sentenced two people, including a woman, to life imprisonment in a murder case in Kushtia. District Judge Arup Kumar Goswami handed down the verdict on Monday (September 7).
The convicts are Sajib Hossain (22) of Haider Char in Daulatpur upazila of the district, father Md. Alamgir Hossain and Seema Khatun (38) of Tajpur village of the same upazila, husband Md. Afaz Uddin. Everyone has been fined Rs 20,000.
According to prosecution sources, Naharul Islam of the same village lodged a written complaint with Daulatpur Police Station on January 24, 2016 stating that his son Md. Roni Islam had left for Sonaikundi Bazaar at around 7.00 pm that day and did not return home.
He and his relatives continued to search but failed to trace. About a month after the incident, on February 1, Roni’s body was found half-buried on the beach inside the Udayanagar Padma river char in Chilmari union of Daulatpur upazila. On February 2, a murder case was filed mentioning no name. However, the informant informed the police about the suspicion of the killer.
Daulatpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shahdara Khan himself took up the case and on January 15, 2019, charges were framed under Section 302/201/34 of the Penal Code.
Police sources said the accused Seema Khatun's husband is living abroad. On that occasion a boundary relationship was formed with Roni Islam. At one stage it takes the form of a physical relationship. Roni captured all these things on the phone, blackmailed Seema Khatun, had a physical relationship and took the money. Defendant Sajib saw Roni coming out of Seema’s house one day and inquired about the matter and found out about Seema's relationship with Roni. Seema tells Sajeeb to take revenge on Roni by taking him to Udayanagar Padma river char.
