Two sentenced life term in murder case in Kushtia

A court on Thursday has sentenced two people to life imprisonment for killing a man in Kumarkhali in Kushtia in 2013.

Judge Munshi Mohammad Moshiar Rahman of the Special Session Judge Court announced the verdict.

Convicted Asan Ali Sheikh, son of Kafil Uddin Sheikh of Uttar Chandpur village, was present in the court at the time. Another convict Md. Selim, son of Abdus Sattar of Lahini villageis absconding.

According to court sources, the accused called Atiar Rahman from his house at 8:30 pm on October 22, 2013 due to previous anonymity over money. The next morning, Atiar’s decapitated body was recovered from a paddy field in the local Dharmapara field. 

Habibur Rahman, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case with Kumarkhali police station on October 24. 

Following the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the three accused on November 21, 2014. 

After a long hearing, the court sentenced the two accused to life imprisonment and more six months imprisonment in default to pay fine of Tk 50,000 under Section 143/323/302/34 of the Penal Code. 

The court acquitted Rezaul, the third accused in the case.
