Two members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) were killed in an accident while trying to net a pickup carrying Phensidyl in Magura district early hours of Friday.
RAB said driver of the pickup was also killed in the incident.
The accident took place in Rautra area of Sadar in the district.
The deceased are RAB-6 members Faruk Hossain and Anisur Rahman and pickup driver Mohidul Islam.
Commander of RAB-6, Lt. Col. Muhammad Mostak Ahmed said, based on specific information, an attempt was made to stop the pickup at the signal in front of the RAB camp around 3:30 am. But the pickup defied the signal and took to speed away. Then the RAB members chased the pickup tried to catch.
When RAB’s car went to overtake the pickup, the pickup driver hit the right side of RAB’s vehicle. Both the vehicles fell into the roadside.
Two members of RAB were killed on the spot. The driver of the pickup also died on the spot. Around 1500 bottles of Phensidyl was recovered from the pickup.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Magura Highway Police Liaqat Ali told that the RAB members were maintaining Jhenaidah check post.
He said the accident took place in the market called Magura Saitrish near to Rautara bazar. RAB member Faruk died on the spot and Anisur died after being brought to the hospital.
Another seriously injured RAB member was taken to CMH in Dhaka.
