Two inmates of Kushtia District Jail died in reportedly cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.
The deceased are Ajmal Pramanik, 55 and Abul Kalam 40. Among them, Ajmal Pramanik died around 1:10 pm and Abul Kalam died around 6:30 am
Superintendent of Kushtia Jail Abdul Barek confirmed the matter.
According to hospital sources, Ajmal was taken to Kushtia General Hospital from the jail when he suddenly fell sick on Thursday night. Meanwhile, Kalam, who suddenly fell ill on Friday morning, was immediately taken to the same hospital.
Tapas Kumar Sarkar, resident medical officer of Kushtia General Hospital said that both died due to cardiac arrest. He said that their bodies have been sent to the morgue for autopsy.
Ajmal is the son of Khalil Pramanik of Islampur village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia. He was a life sentence convict in a murder case. Ajmal was serving a life sentence with rigorous imprisonment from November 30, 2022 for killing a man named Shajahan Ali in Daulatpur, Kushtia.
On the other hand, Abul Kalam was the son of Abdur Razzak of Thanapara area of Kushtia twon. He was sentenced to three months imprisonment in a drug case in a mobile court. He was in jail since July 28 after receiving a three-month sentence in a mobile court.
