The freight train that crashed at Milpara near Kushtia Boro railway station has been fully recovered after 28 hours of efforts. The damaged line has been repaired. Train traffic became normal around 5:30 pm on Saturday.A freight train collided head-on with a four-wheeler push trolley carrying construction equipment at around 2:15 pm on Friday. The trolley was wrecked by the train and went under the engine of the freight train stuck in the sixth carriages. Five bogies were twisted and derailed.
The rescue train from Ishradi arrived at the scene at 4.50 pm on Friday. At first 12 rear bogies were pulled and kept at Kushtia Court Station. Then the work of rescuing the damaged and derailed bogies started.
Pakshi Divisional Railway Manager Shahidul Islam said, one by one the wagons were recovered and other damage including wheel was repaired. At the same time the lower railway line also has to be repaired. After lifting the first bogie, it is understood that the railway line below it has also been badly damaged.
The railway official said the rails and slippers of the line had to be replaced. That is why it has taken so long. Railway engineers and workers have been working down-to-dusk. Many have fallen ill and gone to rest. New engineers and workers have worked in their place.
