The Kushtia-Pabna highway has easy but not been fully operational after 44 hours have passed since the LP gas cylinder truck accident,
The traffic started after the truck was removed from the highway at around 12 last night.
As many as 3,000 vehicles are still on the highway length of about 40 km from Kushtia’s Battail to Pabn’s Ishwardi till 9 am on Tuesday.
However, local administration says that the traffic congestion is gradually decreasing.
The administration claimed that about 25 km of road from Kushtia town to Bheramara is bad and vehicles cannot move fast. It is taking time to reduce the traffic congestion, it said.
According to Kushtia highway police sources, an LPG cylinder truck overturned on the Kushtia-Pabna highway at around 3:30 pm on Sunday. The 10-wheeler truck was going to Natore from Mongla port of Bagerhat with about 17 tones of LPG. Traffic on both sides of the road was cut off as it was lying horizontally on the road.
This highway is called the gateway of North-South Bengal. People from 32 districts of both regions use this highway. The long traffic jam on the highway was caused due to the closure of traffic on the highway for a long time. Thousands of people pushed into sufferings.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia highway police Idris Ali said, the truck carrying LPG cylinders belonged to Beximco Company. It was quite risky of explosion to move because it was full of gas.
He added that sand piles were kept on both sides so that there is no damage in case of explosion. Beximco also assisted in removing the truck.
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Saidul Islam said, ‘The overturned truck was removed from the highway at night with the help of a crane on the night. As a result, the traffic on the road started at around 12 o’clock at night.
He added, but it may be taking time to get rid of the traffic jam completely due to the extra pressure of vehicles and unsuitable road traffic.
It will take easy soon, he said.
