Today is the May Day. The day is celebrated as the day of workers' self-sacrifice for their rights all over the world. Different countries are celebrating this day with different themes.
The theme of this May Day in Bangladesh “Sramik-Malik Nirbisesh, Mujib Borshe Gorbo Desh (Workers and employers will join hands to build the country in the Mujib Year).
Due to the Corona epidemic, shortcut programmes have been adopted by various labour organizations in Bangladesh in compliance with the health guidelines. The programmes includes workers' rallies, processions, discussion meetings, seminars and cultural events.
On the occasion of the day, the President of Bangladesh Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in parliament and Chairman of the Jatiya Party Golam Mohammad Quader gave a message to the nation.
Various political parties and workers' organizations, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), have also issued statements.
In his message, President Abdul Hamid said, "Maintaining mutual understanding and cordiality between workers and employers is very important for the economic development of a labor intensive developing country like Bangladesh."
In her message, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, "We have implemented various programs to ensure friendship and good relations between employers and workers, safe working environment and social security."
