Today is July 29, International Tiger Day 2021. The day began in 2010 Tiger Migration in St. Petersburg, with the aim of protecting the tiger’s natural habitat and creating awareness among the general people about tiger conservation.

This time the theme of the day in Bangladesh is ‘Tiger will save Sundarbans, Sundarbans will save millions of lives’.

In the days, tigers are endemic in 13 countries around the world. Bangladesh is in it.

At the first Tiger Conference in St. Petersburg in 2010, 13 countries, including Bangladesh, set a goal of doubling the number of tigers in their respective countries in 12 years. Nepal has doubled the number of tigers. India and Bhutan have also almost doubled.

But even though the number of tigers in Bangladesh has increased slightly, it is far from that goal.

In the last four years, the number of tigers in the Sundarbans of Bangladesh has increased from 108 to 114. In other words, the number of tigers has increased by 6 in four years.

According to the forest department, the tiger census will be held again after 2016.
