Three leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were tragically killed when their motorcycle hit a roadside truck in Jhenidah on Saturday night. The three were reportedly trying to flee after being chased by their opponent BCL men. Two more BCL activists were also stabbed at the same time.
The deceased are Jhenaidah Government Veterinary College VP Murad Biswas, Chhatra League activists Touhid and Samaresh Hossain Chhomir.
According to source, the students of Jhenaidah Government Veterinary College have been agitating for a long time demanding DVM degree. Former student of the college and current vice-president of the district Chhatra League, Fahim Ahmed, has been in conflict with the current GS of the college students’ union and Chhatra League activist Sajib over its leadership. Sagar Hossain Sohag, a central Chhatra League leader, met with Sajib and a few others who were returning to the campus from the city.
On the way, when they reached in front of the Johans park. The opponents group attacked on Sajib. They stabbed Sajib mercilessly. The attackers also chased VP Murad and three others. Murad with others tried to escape on a motorcycle to escape. At that time, they lost control and hit the truck standing on the side of the road at 18 miles area, killing them on the spot, the motorcycle twisted and turned.
GS Sajeebul said, ‘Central BCL leader Sagar asked them to go to the city to talk about our movement and internal affairs. Talking to him while returning to the campus from the city, when reached Johans Park area, Fahim, Mostakim, Farhad, Arif slapped me on the back from a moving motorcycle.
General Secretary of District Chhatra League Al Imran said, ‘The injured did not clarify who was involved in the incident. However, some of our teams are investigating the matter to know the truth.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Sheikh Sohail Rana said that Sajib was attacked due to the chase-and-counter chase incident between the two groups. At that time, while escaping, the victims met with an accident. However, an operation is underway to find those involved in the incident.
