Thirteen Indian fishermen held for illegal entry

Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard arrested 13 Indian fishermen with a trawler while fishing illegally entering into the territorial waters of Bangladesh in the Bay of Bengal.

Lieutenant Colonel Amirul Haque, a media officer at the Coast Guard headquarters told to The Kushtia Times on Sunday (August 8) afternoon.

He said, ‘Our Coast Guard ship Sonar Bangla was patrolling 15.4 nautical miles southwest of the fairway buoy in Mongla port. The fishermen in an Indian trawler called FB Swarnatara were fishing in the waters of Bangladesh. During the operation, 13 Indian fishermen including the trawler were seized.

The officer added, “The houses of the detained fishermen are in the South 24 Parganas district of India. They have been handed over to Mongla police station for further legal action against them.

Earlier, 16 Indian fishermen on January this year and 17 fishermen in December last year were detained for the same crime.
