The first EVM voting in Kushtia is going on in Khoksa municipality election. Voting started at 9 centers with good turnout at the beginning of the day. Taking some concerns about EVM, voters are voting with enthusiasm.
There are Awami League and BNP candidates in the election. The local administration has declared 6 out of 9 polling stations as vulnerable. There are 9 magistrates in charge of 9 centers and 3 more as striking.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mezbah Uddin said there were no reports of any untoward incident. Voting is on. He is hopeful the vote will end well.
Meanwhile, various discussions are going on among the general voters about the EVM system. Although there is not much to fear, they say they do not know the matter yet fully.
Muktar Hossain, who works as a clerk in a high school in Thanapara area of Khoksa, told the Daily Dainik Kushtia yesterday that the system is new, so he has to think a little about the environment inside the vote center. He cast his ballot today (December 26). He said he was able to cast his vote nicely in the EVM.
Meanwhile, stray troubles are also happening in a couple of places. At a madrasa center in Kamalapur, many women complained that they were being mistreated by election officials because they did not understand when they went to vote.
A female voter Kulsum said that she did not understand the EVM method and when she asked an official of the center about the matter, the officer told her why she needed to come to vote without knowing the method.
She later voted with the help of another.
Awami League candidate lecturer Tariqul Islam said EVM means peaceful voting. He hopes to win again in the continuity of his development.
