At least 10 people were injured in separate clashes over land dispute in Meherrapu and Chuadanga on Friday. The conditions of 4 of them are critical.
Two brothers have been stabbed by their uncle over a land dispute in Chuadanga.
The incident took place at Nimtalapara in Dinanathpur village of Chuadanga Sadar upazila around 2pm on Friday (March 12). The injured were identified as Jasim Uddin, 32, and Abdul Karim, 23, sons of late Abdul Khaleq.
Locals said there had been a long-standing dispute with the sons of Abul Kalam and his brother Abdul Khaleq over ancestral land issues. An altercation took place between the two sides on Friday noon. At one stage, Abul Kalam and his son Shah Alam stabbed Jasim Uddin first. Jasim's younger brother Abdul Karim received random stabbing when he went to save his brother.
The two injured were later rescued and taken to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital.
Sohana Ahmed, doctor on emergencyat Chuadanga Sadar Hospital said the condition of Jasim and Karim was critical. There has been a lot of bleeding. They have been referred to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Chuadanga Sadar Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Jihad Fakrul Alam Khan said legal action was being taken.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Dhankhola village of Gangni upazila in Meherpur over a dispute over wheat harvesting leaving 8 people of both sides, were injured.
The clashes took place around 8am on Friday (March 12).
The injured are Saleha Khatun, Minarul Islam, Jinarul Islam, Sentu Hossain and Sirajul Islam. The other injured were Shaban Ali, Asadul Islam and Ziaul Islam of Sanghat village in the same upazila.
Among the injured, Shaban Ali and Asadul Islam have been shifted to Kushtia General Hospital as their condition is critical.
Nahid Hossain, a land owner said a case had been going on with Iklas Mandal and Islam Ali for about 47 years over 9 acres of share land. After 47 years of litigation, three judgments including a the High Court verdict have been in favor of the Iklas Mandal.
They planted wheat in that land this season.
This morning (Wednesday) when Ikhlas Mondol’s men were returning home after harvesting wheat, Kamruzzaman of Dhankhola village, Shaban Ali of Sanghat village and Asadul Islam of 50 people attacked them with sticks and indigenous weapons.
Gangni Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Bazlur Rahman said police had been sent to the spot. If a case is filed, legal action will be taken in this regard.
Police have been deployed in the incident.
