A stolen newborn from Natore Sadar Hospital was rescued. On Saturday (June 10) at 8 am, the Natore police station rescued him from the Khajanagar Chashi Club area of Botoil Union of Kushtia Sadar Upazila.
Meanwhile, two main accused women have been arrested.
Kajli Khatun, the wife of Saiful of Dhubile Union of Kushtia Mirpur Upazila, bought the newborn for 8 thousand takas and sold it to the wife of Ariful Islam of Khajanagar area of Sadar Upazila. Both of them have been arrested by the police. The father of the newborn is Mahfuzur Rahman, a resident of Khajura Mahishdanga village of Naldanga upazila of Natore district.
According to police sources, the child, who was born at Natore Sadar Hospital on Friday (June 9) morning, was in the arms of his grandmother Khairun Nahar. Later, around noon, Kajli Khatun, dressed as a nurse, came and took the newborn from her grandmother’s lap, telling her to see a doctor. As she did not return for a long time, the relatives started searching for the child. Later, no trace of that woman was found on the entire hospital premises.
After this incident, multiple police teams entered the field after collecting the CCTV footage. The newborn was rescued with the help of information technology in a sustained operation. Meanwhile, Kajli Khatun was arrested for the crime of stealing and selling the newborn and another woman was arrested for the crime of buying the child. It was initially reported to be the work of an organized gang of thieves. The police operation is continuing to nab the other accused.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Natore Police Station Nashim Ahmed said that Kajli Khatun, a resident of the Khajanagar area of Kushtia, lives temporarily in Natore. She stole the baby from the hospital. She then sold the stolen child to his brother’s wife for 8 thousand rupees. The buyer’s name is also Kajli, who has no children. A case has been filed in this incident. Both Kajlis have been arrested in the case of child theft.
