Three months after the disappearance from Kushtia, the skull, bones, examination mark sheet and certificate of a college student were recovered from Damurhuda in Chuadanga.
Though the things were recovered on Saturday afternoon, identity was confirmed on Sunday (November 22) evening.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Damurhuda Model Police Station Abdul Khaleq said the college student was identified as Mim Khanam, 18, daughter of Madhu Khan of Pipulbaria village in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. She was a class XII student of Amla Government College.
Police said locals found skulls and bones scattered on the banks of the Mathabhanga River at Wazirpur village of Damurhuda on Saturday afternoon.
Upon receiving the information, police recovered various parts including Skelton, skull, and bones scattered from the incident. A vanity bag, some clothes including a veil (burqa) were also recovered.
According to police, Mim was killed a few months ago and her body and belongings were dumped in the rubbish on the banks of the Mathabhanga river.
Police sent the parts of the body to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy on Sunday. Police also informed the matter to other adjacent police stations.
Kushtia’s Mirpur police station informed the matter to the family of Mim over a GD filed with the police station just after missing of the girl.
Mim’s father Madhu Khan and mother Sarejan Nesha confirmed that the skeleton belonged to Mim after seeing the vanity bag, clothes, JSC examination certificate and mark sheet recovered at Damurhuda Model Police Station on Sunday.
Mim’s mother Sarejan Nesha told that her daughter went missing while visiting her grandmother’s house in Sultanpur of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia two months and 22 days ago. She could not be found even after doing a lot of searching.
The OC said one of Mim’s relatives told police that Mim had fled the house with a boy from the same area three months ago due to a love affair. Mim has been missing since the incident.
OC said a murder case filed and drive has been launched to arrest those involved.
