Six killed on road in two incidents in Kushtia

Six people were killed and 1 injured in two incidents of collision of drum truck in a span of 8 hours since Sunday night to today (Monday) morning in Kushtia.

Among them, 4 people were killed in Kushtia Sadar Upazila Monday morning and two killed in Daulatpur upazila on Sunday night.

Four people were killed and one injured when a drum truck hit a local battery run rickshaw van in front of Mondal Hotel in Battail Dakshinpara area on Kushtia-Jhenaidah road highway of ​​Kushtia Sadar upazila around 5:30 am, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kushtia Highway Police Idris Ali confirmed.

The deceased were identified as Muktar Hossain, 50, son of Hazel Hossain and Jasmine, 30, wife of Azizul Haque of Swastipur, Rozina Khatun, 28, daughter of Vadu Mollah and Swapna Rani, 45, wife of Manoranjan of Haldarpara of Kushtia sadar upazila,

Among them Muktar Hossain was a van puller, while the others three were bidi workers.

Kushtia Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sabbir Alam said the speeding Jhenaidah-bound drum truck hit the van coming from the opposite direction. There were 5 passengers in the van. Four of them killed on the spot.

Highway police went to the spot and recovered four bodies and sent to Kushtia General Hospital.

OC said the driver of the drum truck escaped. However, the truck was seized.

Tahmina Khatun, wife of Shariful of Baliapara village in Alampur union of Kushtia Sadar upazila, who received injury, is undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital.

 Two more died in Daulatpur /

Two motorcyclists were killed when another drum truck hit them in Taragunia area of ​​Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia at about 9:pm.

The two killed were passengers of the same motorcycle. They are Bidyut, 38, son of late Hazrat Ali of Kaipale village in Daulatpur upazila and Rajan, 38, son of late Feru of the same area.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Daulatpur Police Station SM Jabid Hasan confirmed the matter.

OC said the speeding 6-drum truck lost control and pushed the motorcycle from the head. Two motorcyclists were killed on the spot.

Meanwhile, the locals seized the drum truck and set it on fire. When the fire service vehicle went to put out the fire, the crowd also stopped it. Later the police came and took control of the situation.
Daulatpur Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Jabid Hasan said the driver managed to flee the scene.
