Internationally renowned folklorist, writer and researcher Shamsuzzaman Khan has been appointed as the President of Bangla Academy.
The Ministry of Culture issued an order in this regard On Sunday (June 27).
Shamsuzzaman Khan will be the president for three years. The duties and other functions of the President will be regulated in accordance with the 'Bangla Academy Act-2013'.
Earlier, Professor Anisuzzaman was appointed as the president of Bangla Academy since 2012. Anisuzzaman was last appointed as the president for three years from January 29, 2020 to January 26, 2023. Anisuzzaman passed away on May 14.
Earlier, Shamsuzzaman Khan had served as the Director General of Bangla Academy for 10 years.
Professor Shamsuzzaman was born in 1940 in Manikganj district. He received the state's highest independence medal and the Ekushey medal. From 1996 to 2001, he was the Director General of the National Museum of Bangladesh. He has also served as the Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
In 2019, he was elected President of the Board of Trustees of the Bangladesh National Museum for three years.
