‘September on Jessore Road’ written by the American poet Allen Ginsberg about the indescribable plight of the refugees on Jessore Road in 1971 is a unique document is associated with the great liberation war and freedom-loving people of Bangladesh.
September on Jessore Road’ has been staged at the Jessore District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Friday evening based on that timeless poem of Ginsberg.
With the initiative of District Shilpakala Academy on the occasion of Mujibvarsha, this song and dance drama has been revived in the Jessore cultural arena which has been stagnant for almost six months due to the global epidemic. Hundreds of culture lovers including Deputy Commissioner Tamizul Islam Khan enjoyed the performance.
The Geeti Nrityanatya, performed by hundreds of artists from almost all the cultural organizations of the district, was also broadcast live on the official Facebook and City Cable of the district administration.
Khan Mohammad Farabi translated the poem ‘September on Jessore Road. In 1999, Indian musician Mausumi Bhowmik translated the poem into a song. The scenes of the wailing and genocide of the oppressed people of the liberation war of 1971 from the British period have been matched on the stage.
