Retd. College teacher killed in Narail

A retired private college teacher in Narail was killed in his own house. The murder took place at Benahati village in Narail Sadar upazila.

The deceased was identified as Arun Roy, 72. The matter came to light on Friday (October 23) at around 8 pm. Police have visited the spot.

Arun Roy is the husband of Niva Rani Pathak, Deputy Director, Department of Secondary and Higher Education (Maushi), Khulna Region. Niva Rani was former headmaster of Kushtia Zilla School.

According to villagers and family sources, Arun Roy lived alone in Benahati village home. He has a son, an engineer, and a daughter, a doctor. Due to her job, Arun’s wife and children lived outside the district. They would occasionally come home on vacation. Niva Rani Pathak and her son Indrajith Roy came home in the evening after not getting any response from Arun Roy all day on Friday. They broke down the door of the two-storey building by climbing the ladder and entered the house and found his body with his throat slit on a chair.

Locals said many people saw Arun Roy taking tea from a local tea shop on Thursday evening. It is suspected that the miscreants killed him on the second floor of the house at night.
According to the locals, Arun Roy was a very polite person.

Tularampur union chairman Bulbul Ahmed said Arun Roy lived alone at home. The incident is might have taken place on Thursday night.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Narail Sadar Police Station Ilias Hossain said the miscreants slaughtered and killed him. However, the cause of the murder is being investigated.

He said the body was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
