Responsibility, patriotism and thinking of welfare is must for journalism

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called upon the people to take up the profession of journalism with responsibility, patriotism and thinking of the welfare of the people.

She said that she wants neutrality in journalism.

“One should have a sense of duty towards the country and the nation. Unprincipled journalism cannot bring welfare to any country, but harms it. Unprincipled journalism should not happen,” she said.

She made the remarks in a video conference from Ganobhaban on Sunday (October 25) at the Silver Jubilee of the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity at the Hotel Intercontinental.

The Prime Minister said everyone should carry a sense of responsibility. The sense of responsibility is the biggest thing. Don’t have that yellow journalism that confuses people with unwarranted criticism. And online people should have a vision for social, humanitarian, human welfare and development. That is the kind of journalism.

Quoting a statement by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Hasina said, “Father of the Nation has said- ‘Unprincipled politics cannot give anything to the country and the nation.’ Similarly, unprincipled journalism cannot do any good to the country. Rather in many cases it harms society.

The Prime Minister urged everyone to abide by the policy of journalism.

Highlighting the journalism of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in various newspapers, Sheikh Hasina said, “As a child of Bangabandhu, I am also a member of the journalist family.”

Reiterating her determination to take the country forward, the Prime Minister said, “We want to take the country forward as Bangladesh is moving forward today.” The dream of the father of the nation is to build a golden Bangladesh of hunger and poverty. Our effort is to improve people’s lives.
