One sentenced to life for abduction and rape case in Kushtia

A Kushtia court has sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for raping a schoolgirl.

District and Sessions Judge Special Court Munshi Moshiar Rahman pronounced the verdict on Thursday (November 5) in the absence of the accused.

The convicted Yasin Mollah is the son of late Ishaq Mollah of Charkhajura village in Jhenaidah Sadar upazila.

According to court the prosecution, on the morning of September 15, 2019, accused Yasin Mollah forcibly picked up an 8th grade girl from Bahadurpur Mafer Ali Secondary School in Bheramara on a motorcycle with the help of unknown accomplices. The girl’s family did not return the girl even after holding a request to various people including even the police. The mother of the girl filed a case with Bheramara Police Station on September 21 under Section 8/30 of the Special Act.

Advocate Abdul Halim, Public Prosecutor (PP) of the court said the charges against the accused were proved beyond doubt.

The court also fined the accused Tk 1.5 lakh.

Accused Yasin Mollah was a fugitive, the public prosecutor said.
