The government has allocated one lakh metric tonnes of rice for the VGF (Vernable Group Feeding) project. This rice will be distributed among the poor all over the country before Eid.
A letter signed by Mohammad Shahjahan, senior assistant secretary (relief-1) of the Relief Program-1 branch of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, on Tuesday (July 7) said the deputy commissioner would inform the concerned lawmaker about the VGF allocation.
In case of selection of VGF beneficiaries, the following conditions have to be followed:
The list has to be prepared by dividing the number of VGF cards allotted by Union and Ward according to the population of Census 2011. Assistance will be given to the families of distressed, extremely poor people. However, priority should be given to the extremely poor who have been affected by the recent floods and other natural calamities.
Individuals and families who meet the following conditions will be considered destitute and extremely poor:
A family that owns no land or land other than a homestead, a family that depends on day labour, a family that depends on the income or begging of a female worker, a family that has no earning adult male members, a family where a school-going child is force to work, There is no breadwinner in the family, the head of the family is an abandoned or divorced woman, the head of the family is an indigent freedom fighter, the head of the family is indigent and disabled, the family is in dire straits due to natural disasters, the family is in financial crisis and doesn't get food.
