One people was killed in a clash between two groups in Kushtia. The incident took place at Bhabanipur village of Kushtia Sadar upazila. At least 10 people of both sides were injured in the incident.
The clash took place around 10 am on Saturday (October 10).
The deceased was identified as Farid Hossain, 45, son of late Moin Faraji of the same village.
Kushtia Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kamruzzaman Talukder said there were two conflicting groups in the area. One was led by locally influential Awami League leaders Liaquat Ali, Badshah Mia and Reza Mandol and the other side is led by Rashidul and Labu who are also involved in Awami League politics and are locally stronghold.
A week ago, there was a dispute between the people of the two groups. As a result of the dispute, Rashidul-Labu supporters attacked and vandalized the houses of Badshah and Reza Mand0l around 10am on Saturday that led a clash between the people on both sides. At least 10 people from both sides were seriously injured in the clash. One of the injured, Farid Hossain died on the way to Kushtia general hospital at about 11.30:am.
The OC said that after receiving the news, police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The deceased was a supporter of Rashidul-Labu group.
The OC said police were stationed at the area.
