One has died and at least five others injured in an attack and counter attack between councilor candidates of Ward No. 13 in Kushtia municipality on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Sohail Sarkar, 50.

Sources said Sohail Sarkar with some supporters were campaigning at Trimhoni Battala intersection in favour of councilor candidate Mahbubur Rahman Pakhi of the ward. At that time, the incumbent councilor and candidate Rabiul Islam Rabi attacked the supporters of Paki at around 9:pm.

When Sohail was tied up, Robi and his men pushed him away. Sohail fell to the ground and fell ill. He has heart disease.  He died on the way to the hospital.

Kushtia Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abul Kalam confirmed the matter, saying one died of heart attack during a scuffle between the campaigners of two candidates.

A case has been filed in this regard. OC said everyone guilty will be brought under the law.
