Muhammad Omar Faruk is the first professor of Criminology and Police Science in Bangladesh. He is working as a teacher at the department of Criminology and Police Science at Maulana Bhasani University of Science and Technology in Tangail.
Dr. Faruk is a criminologist and victimologist working at national and international level. He is author of 32 articles and 1 book has been published in national and international level. He has also conducted numerous of research and presented papers at different seminars, symposiums and workshops organized at national and international levels.
Dr. Faruk is the Resource Faculty of Masters programme on Victimology and Restorative Justice at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research in Dhaka University and of Bangladesh Police Academy in Sarada.
He is also currently president of Asian Society of Victimology and Bangladesh Society of Criminology and Victimology respectively. He is the Vice-President of Bangladesh Society of Criminology and the Honorary Chairman at the Center for Crime and Victim Studies. He is also a life member of the World Society of Victimology and the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology.
Professor Omar Faruk holds a PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) Degree titled “Criminal Justice System Status Qua and Recommendation for Domestic Violence Victims in Bangladesh” conducted in OP Jindal Global University (World Ranking University) in India under the supervision of Jared Ferdinand Kirshop (Germany) and Professor Sanjiv P Sahni (India). This Doctoral study is the first study on this subject in Bangladesh and South Asia.
Professor Omar Faruk is keen to use his research experience to work at the national level by working on Bangladesh’s Victim-Based Criminal Law and Criminal Justice Reform.
