Oil tanker derailed in Chuadanga, cuts off rail communication

An oil tanker of Railway West Zone derailed in Chuadanga.

As a result, rail communication between Khulna and across the country has been cut off.

According to source, five bogies of the oil-carrying train derailed in front of Uthli railway station in Jibannagar upazila of Chuadanga at around 12:40 am on Sunday

Uthli Railway Station Master Mohammad Ali told that the tanker carrying 30 bogies carrying diesel from Khulna to Natore reached Uthli Railway Station at around 12.20. The train was taken to line 2 for the crossing to another train. At the end of the crossing, the train started for Natore.

He said five bogies derailed at 12:40 am when the train crossed point 14/15 from line 2 to line 1.

Meanwhile, four passenger trains were still stranded at Darshana, Ansarbaria and Sabdalpur stations near Uthli railway station after the incident.

Station Master Mohammad Ali further told that a rescue train from Ishwardi in Railway West Zone reached the spot at 7.30 am and started rescue operation.

He said that the train movement could be resumed at 12 noon.
