Fazle Kabir has been appointed as the Governor to the Bangladesh Bank for another two years.
A notification in this regard has been issued by the Financial Division of the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday (July 15).
According to the circular, Fazle Kabir has been appointed as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank till he attains the age of eight years. As such, he was appointed till July 3, 2022.
The notification said the order will be effective immediately.
It may be mentioned that on July 9, a bill was passed in the parliament to increase the age of the governor from 65 years to 67 years.
Governor Fazle Kabir turned 65 on July 3. As the maximum age limit for this post is fixed at 65 years, it is not possible to appoint a person with skills and experience in the financial sector as a governor outside that age limit. Even an experienced person serving as the Governor of Bangladesh Bank cannot be re-appointed after 65 years. That is why this bill has been passed.
