The High Court has declared the nomination or appointment of MPs as the president of the governing body of any degree college illegal. The verdict said it is conflicted with the constitution.
The verdict was signed by Justice Md. Ashraful Kamal and Justice Rajik Al Jalil.
Thursday (July 18).
According to the verdict, a member of parliament are to be elected by the people. On the other hand, the rank of the governing body appointing authority is lower than the lawmakers. If the elected lawmaker of the area concerned is the President of the Governing Body, then in effect, the Governing Body is bound to become an institution of one person.
Members of Parliament are elected to make laws. And they should be engaged in the development activities of the area all the time. Ministers and speakers were later elected from among the members of parliament. So it is not appropriate for him to be in such a small position in a governing body. Because if he leads a private organization, other developmental activities in the country will be disrupted.
Earlier, on November 25, 2019, the High Court issued rule in this regard.
