A court has sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment in a housewife rape case.

District and Sessions Judge Munshi Moshiar Rahman of the Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal handed down the verdict on Sunday.

At the same time, the court sentenced the accused to another six months imprisonment for non-payment of a fine of Tk 1 lakh.

The convicted Md. Jewel is the son of Billal Hossain of Kumarkhali upazila.

According to the details of the case, on the night of September 3, 2019, when the woman went out of home to respond the call of nature, Jewel grabbed her touching knife on her throat and raped her. At one point, when people of the house heard the moaning of the woman and came forwarded, the rapist Jewel fled.

Sources said Jewel often teased the woman. He used to lie in wait almost at night. He was also ambushed on the night of the incident.

The housewife’s husband filed a case with the Kumarkhali Police Station under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act. 

Kumarkhali police filed the charge sheet in the court on November 26 of the same year after investigation.

The convict was present in court when the verdict was announced.
