Due to the harder lockdown in Kushtia to prevent the spread of coronavirus, there are no even light vehicles on the city roads. Now, the only means of transport for people to get out of the house in case of emergency is locally made battery powered van and rickshaw.
General people have been seen traveling to their destinations in different parts of the city in these vans and rickshaws.
This scene has been found on various roads’ points in the city since Monday morning, starting of third phases of lockdown.
Turning to the ground, it is seen that the movement of battery-powered Pakhi vans and rickshaws has increased on various roads in the city including Majampur, Saddam Bazar, Hospital Junction, Bara Bazar, Thana Traffic Junction, College Junction etc.
In several days ago, the picture was different. Such vehicles were not seen in the city due to lockdown barriers. Now considering the situation, government has allowed these vehicles on the street.
However, it is being said that these vehicles are charging high to the people. And due to the high fares, many people are seen travel to different places on foot. Besides, a small number of motorcycles are plying on the road.
Van driver Mehedi said the van was running on this road as the administration has permitted. “However, I could not earn more since morning because human movement is very low. They are traveling to different places on foot,” he said.
He said if he doesn't work, his family will not survive. So he is running van out of fear of Corona.
Rickshaw puller Badal Ali said that the movement of people in this city is very low now. So, income is lower.
He said there is no way to stay at home. The family lives on his daily work and income.
Pedestrian Tutul Ali said, I have left home for business. Van rickshaw pullers want more fare so he is going to his destination on foot.
A policeman in charge of traffic said there was no problem with traffic now. Now he is working there when there is an increase gathering of people in his surrounding roads.
He said he knew many people in the city who were coming out on the streets without any work. He thinks this trend should stop.
