Customs, customs detectives and BGB authorities have suspended licenses of eight C&F agent and seized huge goods worth Tk 6 crore in the last 15 days at Benapole, the country’s largest land port, for importing goods by evading revenue.

The seized goods included sari in chocolate consignment, coffee and medicine in beech powder consignment, Indian three piece in aluminum ingot, sari, lehenga, Punjabi, thankapar, faux cloth, empty blood bag, padlock and rexine in machinery parts, 19 imported fish declared.

A fine of Tk 2.5 crore has been collected from these invoices.

The suspended C&F agents are Remu Enterprise, Talukdar Enterprise, Asia Enterprise, Sunny International, Medina Enterprise, Mukti Enterprise, Rianca Enterprise and Trim Trade. Customs sources said most of the licenses were leased.

Trade with India through Benapole is about Tk 35,000 crore a year. The National Board of Revenue has set a revenue collection target of Tk 8,244.56 crore for Benapole Customs House in the current financial year. But an unscrupulous cycle has become an obstacle in meeting the revenue collection targets.

Meanwhile, the import of goods is increasing due to false declaration in the port.

Sometimes by managing the customs port and its officials, the festival of revenue evasion of the government is going on. Occasionally one or two consignments are seized but most are out of reach.

Benapole Customs Commissioner Azizur Rahman told that continuous efforts are being made to prevent customs evasion. Multiple mobile teams of customs are working at the port. .
