Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswamy says Lalon’s anti-prejudice religious, anti-caste and anti-traditional thinking is able to lead the way in today’s troubled society.
He called upon to hold and follow the Lalon’s thought.
Doraiswamy made the remarks during a short visit to Lalon Mazar in Chheuriya in Kushtia on Friday. He spent some time there and listened to some of Lalon's songs.
Earlier, he visited Shilaidaha Kuthibari and saw the progress of several Indian-funded works in Kuthibari. From there he came to Lalon Mazar.
He spent some time at Mahatma Lalon's shrine. Later, he listened to the songs of the bards sang by local artists.
Doraiswamy said Lalon’s secular songs are now comparable to a specialized philosophy. His thinking largely represents and advocates for what is now known as syncretism. Although he did not speak for combination of religions. But he did reject the difference between religions and caste and has spoken out against discrimination in religions. Interfaith religion was the key of all his words.
He was accompanied by Rajesh Kumar Raina, Assistant High Commissioner of India in Khulna, Sanjeev Kumar Bhatti, Assistant High Commissioner of Rajshahi and officials of various ranks and files from Indian Embassy.
