Kustia court jailed 15 years to a physician in drug case

A Kushtia court has sentenced a physician to 15 years rigorous imprisonment in a drug case filed in 2015.

The convicted Asaduzzaman Firoz was a medical officer of Bheramara Upazila Health Complex in the district. Son of Abdul Razzak of Karigarpara in Golapnagar village of Bheramara upazila, Firoj was a MBBS.

Kushtia Additional District and Sessions Judge Tajul Islam handed down the verdict at noon on Sunday (October 10th). At the same time, he was fined Tk 50,000 and sentenced to one more year of rigorous imprisonment in default to pay. .

According to the prosecution brief, on the evening of September 13, 2015, Asaduzzaman Firoz was arrested along with 2,000 pieces of Yaba from a saw mill in Zia Road area of ​​Mirpur upazila.

Police also arrested Feroze’s two associates Joynal Abedin and Naharul Islam. Naharul was owner of the saw mill.

A case was filed against the three under the Narcotics Control Act at Mirpur police station on the same night.

Sub-inspector (SI) Anwar Hossain of Mirpur police submitted the charge sheet on January 12, 2016 showing Asaduzzaman Firoj as ky accused.

The court, however, has acquitted two of Feroze’s associates.
