People of all walks of life have paid homage to the martyrs. At the same time, they have pledged to build a prosperous Bangladesh in the spirit of language movement in 1952.
Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Saidul Islam, Kushtia Superintendent of Police Khairul Alam, District Awami League President freedom fighter Sadar Uddin Khan and District Awami League General Secretary Azgar Ali paid homage to the language martyrs with flowers at the Shaheed Minar at Kushtia Collectorate premises on the first morning of Ekushey.
Officials of various government offices of the district paid floral tributes at the Shaheed Minar.
In the morning, various political, social and cultural organizations of the district came to pay their respects at the altar. Teachers and students of different schools and colleges and professional organizations took part in it.
Leaders of Kushtia Nagorik Committee led by its president Professor Doctor SM Mostanzid, Sammilito Samajik Jote chairman also editor and publisher of Bangla daily Dainik Kushtia and English Weekly the Kushtia Times Dr. Amanur Aman among others placed respect to the altar.
Security has been beefed up in the Shaheed Minar area since last night. Apart from the police, scouts, activists of various voluntary organizations including BNCC were also deployed.
Tribute lasted till noon.
People of different walks of life once again called for the ubiquitous introduction of Bengali language in the country. They said that the goal of the day has not been achieved yet. The right to language has come, but the universality of language has not yet been created. This is possible by using Bangla language at all levels.
