The Kushtia district administration has instructed the NGOs to avoid strict attitude in collecting installment of their disbursement loan. An earlier circular in this regard has been re-issued by the district administration in the context of a letter received from the Microcredit Regulatory Authority.
The notice issued said that NGOs will not be able to be strict in collecting installments till September 30. However, microfinance activities can be managed in advance. NGO workers can also go to the field to collect loans. However, in this case, the borrowers will pay the installment according to their ability.
It said here it has to be accepted by the NGOs. No coercion can be used. These guidelines will be followed till September 30.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Muhammad Obaidur Rahman has signed the letter.
MA Quader, executive director of Kushtia’s larger NGO SETU said his NGO was fully compliant.
“There is no pressure anywhere. This is a microfinance service. The service is being provided in the humanitarian sense,” said MA Quader.
He said many people who are unable to repay their micro-loans have been brought under financial assistance from his organization.
Regarding the issue, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Obaidur Rahman told that the NGOs are giving loans from the financial grant of government at the general level. So they also need to understand the situation in the country.
