The ruling Awami League bagged win in three, out of four municipality seats in Kushtia. The vote was held on Saturday.
Beside, Jatyia Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) has won in one municipality.
The election was conducted peacefully. For the first time in Kumarkhali municipality, EVM voting was held. In the other three municipalities, voting is by ballot paper.
In the Kushtia municipality election, veteran Awami League leader and incumbent mayor Anwar Ali defeated BNP candidate Bashirul Alam Chand with the boat symbol and was elected mayor. Anwar Ali got 66052 votes and Chad got 14613 votes.
Incumbent mayor also Awami League candidate Samsuzzaman Arun has been elected unofficially in Kumarkhari municipality with 10,160 votes. His nearest candidate Anisur Rahman Lalu got 2515 votes.
Awami League candidate Haji Enamul Haque has been re-elected as mayor of Mirpur municipality with 10468 votes. His nearest independent candidate Sheikh Arif got 2515 votes.
Meanwhile, Anwarul Kabir Tutul, a candidate of the torch symbol nominated by the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), has been elected mayor of Bheramara municipality with 8032 votes. His nearest candidate was the incumbent Mayor Shamimul Islam Chana. He got 5634 votes.
Peaceful voting was held in four municipalities of Kushtia simultaneously from 8am to 4pm.
