Kushtia Police have arrested a hardware trader, another key figure in the NID fraudulent land grabbing scam involved worth crores of taka. Identified as Mahibul Islam, is the least member of this gang.
Earlier on Wednesday, Kushtia town Juba League convener Ashrafuzzaman Sujan was arrested by the police in this connection. This Sujan is an infiltrator of Juba League from Chhatra Dal.
Earlier, those arrested were Wadud alias Mintu Khandaker, son of Khandaker Abul Hossain of Aruapara area of the city, Milon Hossain, son of Shalghar Madhuar Atiyar of Kumarkhali upazila and his two sisters Chhonwara Khatun and Jahanara Khatun.
According to police and victim sources, the fraudulent clique, led by Juba League leader Sujan, made fake NID in the name of his mother Moksuda Khatun, four sisters Rizia Khatun, Basro Khatun, Salma Kabir and Shamima Khatun. All were arrested on Monday.
According to police and victim sources, the gang, led by Juba League leader Sujan, forged the 22 katha out of 4 bigha ancestral property of MM Wadud, a resident of Thanapara area of the town, his mother Moksuda Khatun, 4 sisters Rizia Khatun, Basro Khatun, Salma Kabir and Shamima Khatun. They were owners of 6 lands according to the heirs of the late father M Hakim.
The land was worth about Tk 3 crore. But the frauds sold it to hardware trader Mahibul Islam for only Tk 77 lakh. The fraudsters made fake national identity cards of all of them and became the owners of that land overnight. They were trying to sell Abdul Wadud’s property including another two-storey building worth about Tk 3 crore at NS Road in the city, using the same tactics.
The police brought the matter to their notice after the news was broadcast on several news channels. Meanwhile, the Central Juba League announced the dissolution of the town Juba League committee on Sunday as the name of Juba League leader Sujan came up with this clique.
According to different sources in Kushtia district Awami League, Ashrafuzzaman Sajun was the president of the 5 No ward of the BNP’s student organization Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal. At the behest of one of the top leaders of the Awami League, the Central Juba League approved the 21-member town Juba League committee by making convener Sujan on May 15, 2017. From then on, Sujan got involved in various misdeeds and started tender manipulation in the district.
Superintendent of police in Kushtia SM Tanvir Arafath said the operation was continuing on the basis of information from the detainees. No one will be given any spare. Those involved will be arrested no matter how influential they are.
