Journalists working in various media outlets in Kushtia have demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits involved in manhandling and torturing to Bangla daily Prothom Alo’s senior reporter Rozina Islam in secretariat.
At the same time, the jurors demanded immediate withdraw of the case filed against her and her unconditional release too.
The demand was made at a protest and human chain at Bangabandhu Chattar in Kushtia city on Tuesday afternoon.
The demonstrations and human chain under the banner of journalists of all walks of Kushtia lasted one hour. Leaders of different journalists, social and cultural organisations joined in the programme expressing solidarity with the journalists.
Members of Prothom Alo Kushtia Bandhusabha also took part in the event.
General Secretary of Kushtia Press Club Anisuzzaman Dablu conducted the programme.
Senior Journalists Hasan Ali, Sharif Biswas, Rabiul Islam Dolan, Sheikh Hasan Belal, Nahid Hasan Titas, Hasibur Rahman Riju Karshed Alam, President of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Mancha Central Committee and former Vice President of BCL Central Committee Aminul Islam Bulbul, Environment and Cultural Personality Khalilur Rahman Moju, Kangal Harinath Press Club Central Committee President KMR Shahin and others addressed the programme.
Speakers said that while performing professional duties in the Ministry of Health, corrupt officials detained journalist Rozina Islam for about six hours. These corrupt officials should be arrested and journalist Rozina Islam should be released unconditionally.
The speakers also demanded an inquiry into the whereabouts of masterminds.
