Kushtia Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain has inaugurated a farmers’ market in Kushtia town with safe vegetables produced by the farmers themselves. He inaugurated the hub on Tuesday (September 1) at the Kushtia Public Library grounds adjacent to NS Road.
The district administration, Department of Agricultural Extension and the Department of Agricultural Marketing, Kushtia has jointly launched the market. The farmers will sell their products directly to consumers at the market.
At the time, Deputy Commissioner Aslam Hossain said the government is committed for ensuring fair price for all produced things of the farmers. For this, several programmes are running under the government’s Farmers Safety Net.
“The government will continue to take more steps in the interest of farmers,” the deputy commissioner said.
He said that as the interests of the farmers are being ensured, the farmers should be careful about the quality of the products things. Vegetables cannot be produced by applying pesticides everywhere.
The Deputy Commissioner advised the farmers to bring them under the necessary training so that they can produce vegetables in a natural way.
Kushtia Sadar Upazila Chairman Ataur Rahman Ata, Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) Jobayer Hossain Chowdhury and others were present on the occasion under the presiding of Shyamal Kumar Biswas, Deputy Director, Department of Agricultural Extension, Kushtia.
The market will be open for marginal farmers 2 days a week every Friday and Saturday from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm.
