Local leaders of ruling Awami League have given a 24 hours ultimatum to book the killers of its leader Siddiqur Rahman in Bheramara.
The ultimatum was given in a rally held in front of Bheramara Press Club on Friday evening. The rally was addressed among others by Bheramara upazila unit AL president Rafiqul Alam Chuunu and general secretary Samimul Islam Chana.
The AL leaders blamed Jatyia Saamjtantrik Dal (JSD), one of the key allies of ruling AL for responsible of the killing. Thus time, they also chanted slogans against JSD.
The AL leaders warned tougher steps if the their demand of arresting the killers are not complied.
A local level Awami League leader was shot dead in Kushtia's Bheramaraupazila today (Friday) morning.
The deceased was identified as Siddiqur Rahman Siddique, 50, general secretary of AL Ward 3 of Chandgram Union. He was son of Amber Mondal of Chandgram of the upazila.
The incident took place at Charpara village of Chandgram union around 9 am.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Bheramara Police Station Mojibur Rahman said Siddique was working with his men in the field. Suddenly, a group of 4/5 people appeared there. The miscreants started firing indiscriminately. Siddique and 4 others were shot.
When the terrorists left, the locals rescued them and took to the BheramaraupazilaHealth Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared Siddique dead.
The injured are being treated there.
The OC further said that it is being suspected that the murder may have taken place due to previous enmity. Police is conducting operations to arrest the killers.
