Bloodshed is on the rise in Shailkupa municipality election in Jhenaidah.

Police have recovered the body a councilor candidate five hours the murder of the brother of opponent councilor candidate.

The councilor candidate was identified as Alamgir Hossain Babu, 50. Babu was independent candidate.

Police and other sources the killing might have a sequel of killing Awami League leader Liaquat Hossain Boltu, 49, brother of councilor candidate Shawkat Hossain.

According to police, Boltu went to campaign for his brother at Kabirpur under the Ward No. 8 on Wednesday. At that time, the supporters of rival independent candidate Alamgir Hossain Babu reportedly stabbed him and fled. Boltu was rushed to Kushtia Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A few hours after the incident, the body of Alamgir Hossain Babu was found at Devtala area.

Extreme concern has spread among the voters of Shailkupa Municipality over the two consecutive deaths. Police have been deployed all over the upazila town and municipal areas. Police are checking at the corners.

Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jahangir Alam said the body of commissioner candidate Alamgir Hossain Babu was recovered from the river. Nothing is known yet about the death.

The cause of his death will be known after investigation.
