Identified miscreants hacked to death Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) activist Faruk Sardar of Goaland upazila in Rajbari on Saturday night.
The incident took place at Purabhita area, adjacent to Daulatdia brothel at about 10:30 PM.
The deceased, Faruk Sardar, 26, was the son of village doctor Shahid Sardar of Mondol Para in Daulatdia Union. He was an activist of the Daulatdia Union unit of JCD.
Faruk's elder brother Moniruzzaman said that some people including one Mohon Mondol and Ripon of the area, involved in illegal drug use and gambling threatened for a dire consequence to Faruk as he tried to stop their misdeeds at the area a few days ago.
Moniruzzaman said that the same gang had organized a gambling den at a fair organised at Daulatdia railway station on the occasion of the Durga Puja festival. Additionally, the gang were extorting money from various shops.
Last night around 10: pm, Faruk and his friend Al Amin went to the Daulatdia brothel area and asked Ripon to stop the extortion and the gambling den. In response, Ripon and his men hacked Faruk, leaving him severely injured.
Locals rushed him to the Goaland Upazila Health Complex. Doctors shifted them to Faridpur Medical college hospital as their condition continued to be critical. The on-duty doctor declared Faruk dead there.

Additional Superintendent of Police in Rajbari Sharif Al Rajib said police is investigating to uncover the motive behind the murder.
