Recent tensions between Israel and Lebanon suggest a potential escalation in the Middle East conflict, with Lebanon becoming the latest focal point. Israel’s military has indicated its approval for a war plan, led by Major General Uri Gordin of the Israeli Defense Forces’ Northern Command and Major General Oded Basyuk of the Operations Directorate.
In recent weeks, rockets and missiles have frequently been fired from Lebanon towards Israel. A top leader of Lebanon’s Hezbollah militia was killed in an Israeli attack just days ago, prompting Lebanon to approve military plans against Israel. Within a few days of this incident, Israel’s military approved a war plan targeting Lebanon and decided to keep its troops prepared.
Throughout the past year’s end, Hezbollah has escalated attacks on Israel from Lebanon. On Tuesday, they released a video lasting nearly 10 minutes. The footage allegedly depicts Israeli cities like Haifa amidst armed and unarmed positions. Israeli officials have expressed alarm following the video’s release, with the Israeli Foreign Minister warning, “We are very close to changing the rules of engagement against Lebanon and its armed groups. A full-scale war will be waged against Lebanon’s armed groups, and Lebanon will be taught a harsh lesson.”
Almost daily skirmishes occur along the Israel-Lebanon border, resulting in the deaths of 10 civilians and 15 members of the Israeli military and reserves. On the Lebanese side of the border, armed groups report 343 casualties. Additionally, several dozen members of other armed groups and civilians have been killed in Lebanon.
